On November 25, Chinmoy Krishna Das, a Vaishnav leader and former member of the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON) in Bangladesh, was arrested by the Dhaka Metropolitan Police on charges of sedition. Protests erupted in Dhaka's Shahbagh area and in Chattogram against his arrest. Demands for his release were also made in India.
Amid these events, a video began circulating on social media, alleging that a man in saffron attire was sexually assaulting a woman in a car. Those sharing the video claimed that Chinmoy Krishna Das was assaulting a Hindu woman in the footage.
An X (formerly Twitter) user shared the video, writing:
"ISKCON Bangladesh leader Chinmoy Krishna Das was caught trying to rape a Hindu girl in Sylhet. This 'protector of Hindus' proves that even local Hindus are not safe from the terrorist organization ISKCON."
Following this, Bangladeshi media outlets began spreading false information about him.
